The majority of drowning accidents occur inland in places such as rivers, dams and home swimming pools. Such places are rarely patrolled by qualified lifeguards. It is important that all members of the community learn some lifesaving techniques. This course involves theory and practical sessions.

Swim: Swim metres, continuously within 13 minutes. Timed Tow: Swim 50 metres, then tow a patient 50m within 3 min 15 sec. Demonstrate three defences from the front, side, and rear and three releases from the front, side, and rear.
