Why mayweather will beat canelo
I think of that fight like I learned from that fight. Canelo is now in the dominant mould of Mayweather, brushing aside all challengers put in front of him. The unbeaten Billy Joe Saunders tried and got a broken eye socket as a result, but Plant will feel like he has a shot at stopping the Mexican, too.
Since that night nearly eight years ago, Canelo has won championships from light middleweight all the way up to light heavyweight and he told Tyson he plans on sticking around for another seven at least. Mayweather cancelled out anything that Canelo brought to him. He used that famous shoulder roll, quick counters, and beat him to the shot. But you must remember that Canelo was very young.
There will always be an argument about whether Mayweather could have done that to the Canelo of today, if I'm totally honest.
Floyd makes you fight his fight. Someone like Canelo, who likes to systematically break an opponent down, they get a little hesitant, because Mayweather is almost three moves ahead. He's always got the answer. Mayweather then raises the pace when he wants to. All great fighters, that's what they do. He just knew too much for him.
It was maybe a bit too soon for Canelo, but at the same time, that's easy to say when you get beaten. Mayweather was too cute all round, which is pretty much what he's done against everybody really. He won with shoulder rolls, incredibly quick hands and surprisingly quick feet. He's a boxer's boxer, a true technician who understands how to win. His skills, along with that sterling record, make Mayweather not only the best boxer in the game today, but, without a doubt, the best boxer of his generation.
You can toss out Mike Tyson's name, but "Iron Mike" had six losses in his career. There is no one in the last 20 or so years who can match Mayweather's record, and there is no one who possesses Money's combination of skill and savvy. It's entirely possible that he would have been a nobody against the Golden Generation of boxers. In fairness to the two boxing legends, there's a good chance that both men have a point, because at their best, they probably wouldn't be fighting in the same weight divisions.
The two met at light middleweight, which has a limit of lbs, Mayweather had previously won titles at welterweight, super lightweight, lightweight and featherweight, down at lbs. Even after defeating Canelo, at admittedly a catchweight, 'Money' dropped down to welterweight again in his fights. His prime was both years before he fought Alvarez and at either or lbs, whereas the opposite is likely true of the Mexican.
